Last summer’s house concert tour was a great success – and an absolute blast! – so with your help, I would love to make it happen again.
If you didn’t receive this announcement last year or you're not familiar with the notion of a house concert, here’s the skinny: What makes a great house concert is a comfy space filled with friends/family/strangers who love music. It's sort of like a "VH1 Storytellers" thing where you get the chance to intimately listen to an artist perform their tunes and tell their stories. It’s also an opportunity to share with your friends the music you support, as well as a chance to help an artist gain exposure to a new audience – with the convenience of the artist coming to YOU!
As the host, you decide the setting – living room, basement, garage, backyard, deck, barn, office, well-lit alley – wherever it’s convenient for you and will accommodate a man and his guitar. And whether your event includes food, drinks, and Twister mats is up to you, but most commonly these are set up as an evening event with an hour or so slotted for the performance. Daytime shows are certainly welcome, too.
I do ask for a fee, O’ Great Supporters, but I believe I keep it fair and affordable. There are two ways the cost be covered:
1) Donations
This is where you ask your guests to make a donation toward the artist. The amount is usually comparable to what it would cost to see me at a club.
2) Host
The other payment route is where the host and I agree upon a flat guarantee. They kindly pick up the tab on their own, get me drunk, allow me to graciously pass out on their couch, and retrieve the money from my jeans pocket while I’m drooling on their throw pillow.
Regarding attendance, I’m certainly happy to play for any size group, no matter how small. If you have the room, I believe in “the more the merrier” theory, especially if you’re going the donation route of payment because it makes the fee all the simpler to cover. And it ensures I won’t have to hock my guitar for gas money. Or be a temporary resident in your home.
